New E3 Firmware E3_20200313_V520 - Won't Install
The new E3 firmware doesn't work. It's "too large" to upload through the dashboard and every and any attempt to load it via an SD card does not work either. I've tried it across 5 different E3s, tried different SD cards, and tried reloading it multiple times.
When I try to put the firmware on an SD card (Yes, I am moving the 4th jumper), both lights stay solid. Regardless of how long they stay solid, nothing happens when I boot them back up.

Here is how it has to be done, because god forbid Bitmain post this themselves...
1.) Flash via SD card (make sure you move the jumper as outlined in their E3 SD card flash instructions website) with firmware version E3-SD-20180806-pool.zip (this will also fully erase your settings).
2.) Through the miners dashboard, upgrade the firmware with the file clear-tmp-sig.tar (I had to get this file from Bitmain's support directly, so you probably will too).
3.) Through the miners dashboard, upgrade the firmware with the file E3_20200313_V520.tar.gz (the file that they now list on their website as the most current firmware).
Now, I'm not sure the firmware does what it says it's going to do and the reason I say this is that the E3-SD-20180806-pool.zip firmware does not load the latest file system code to the miner. There is a 2019 version out that this process will not work with.
However, that's not what's needed to get around the DAG increase supposedly. The only version number that should change in this process from the 1st to the 3rd step is the CGMiner version...

I am still not be able to install the firmware.
After I installed clear-tmp-sig.tar (then reboot 120 sec), then I installed the latest E3 firmware E3_V540_0327.tar
then
413 - Request Entity Too Large
How you guys manage to update the firmware?
I flashed E3 control board with the the firmware E3-SD-20180806-pool.zip few months ago, should i re-do flashing?

Same exact error with the last 2 releases
E3_V540_0327.tar.gz and E3_20200313_V520.tar.gz
FOR 2 years, YOUR TEAM HAS ALWAYS HAD TO CREATE A SD CARD VERSION OF THE LATEST FIRMWARE IN ORDER FOR ANY OF MY E3 MINERS TO UPDATE.
See my account history & Request #607471QUIT STALLING & PLEASE JUST CREATE ONE - YOU are costing your customers $$$$ & TIME
Thank you & see errors belowBoth error saying: 413 - Entity Too Large - ss's attached below
Also images showing Plenty of memory in status & Monitor logs
WHEN THE FILES ARE EXTRACTED THEY ARE OVER 45.6 MB <<<<<<Thats the issue -
E3 Entity Too Large Solution:
I found the issue. Any one who updated using the SD Card version E3-SD-190805-SEC.zip <<<< that is the firmware causing the error. Here's the solution
1) YOU MUST update using a 4MB SD Card AND YOU MUST USE THIS VERSION - IT IS NOT THE SAME Aug version as aboveMUST USE: E3-SD-20180806-pool.zip
you can get it from this link:
https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20imageAfter updating using a 4MB SD Card & that pool version firmware
You can now update normally through the miner interface using this firmware E3_V540_0327.tar.gzFrom this link: https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Antminer%20E3
After updating using the NEWEST firmware it does say the version is:
Mon Aug 6 14:36:35 CST 2018 <<<<<??????? but it does hash at full speed!! :)
Again, I did that process... I am 4 for 4 mining full speed on US Sparkpool
Thank you & your welcome for the solution
Be safeGood luck to all

Hey guys, I had the same problem, the 413 - request entity too large thing. I tried all of the above with no luck. (Except I didn't have the clear-tmp-sig.tar file to test.) I couldn't even generate an archive / download a backup under Upgrade; I would just get a bunch of errors.
But I got it working!
First of all, a disclaimer: I don't know what I'm doing. Proceed at your own risk!
Here's how I did it.
- First, I formatted a 4GB micro SD card with Windows 10 as FAT 32.
- Then I downloaded and unzipped E3-SD-20180806-pool.zip and copied the contents to the card.
- While it was off, I unplugged the fan and miners from the control board, put the micro SD card in the slot, changed jumper 4, and turned the power on.
- After only about 30 seconds, the two lights were blinking.
- I turned the power off, removed the SD card, and reset jumper 4 to the original position. (I had left my Ethernet cable attached through all of this.)
- Now I tried to upload E3_V540_0327.tar.gz through the E3 web interface, but no go. Same error. So I SSH'd into the miner using PuTTY; same login as the E3 web interface. I ran df and saw that the root file system was almost full, like 99% or something. I poked around and found a large file in the root directory simply called "core", i.e. /core. It was huge and taking up most of the space on the drive! So I used the following command on my Windows machine to first download core in case I needed it later (I didn't):
pscp -scp root@192.168.1.73:/core core
- Then I deleted it from the Antminer:
rm /core
- I then tried to upload E3_V540_0327.tar.gz through the E3 web interface and voila!! It worked perfectly. ( did it with the Keep Settings checkbox UNchecked, but I don't know if this is necessary or not. I had to reconfigure everything after the upgrade.
- I then reattached the miners and fans, and it's running fine with CGminer Version 5.4.0.
I don't know what the "core" file was. I thought it might be something dynamically generated and come back, but now that it's up and running with thew new version I still have a lot of free space and there is no "core" file. So I'm guessing you can probably just delete it.
Hopefully this helps someone!

I am having the same issue.
I have 5 Antiminer E3 and the exact same thing happens. I cannot install the Firmware with an SD card because both lights come on and no matter how long I leave it going nothing changes.
Just like the above poster, the jumper has been moved and board is out of miner according to the instructions.
I can't install the firmware via the web because I receive the error
413 - Request Entity Too Large
please .. how do we fix this?
-
I got this from Bitmain support and they sent the intermediate firmware in an email

We have send clear-tmp-sig to you by another email please double check
