1.
Issue: The miner has no hash rate. One of the hash board’s temperature exceeds 80 degree Celsius.
Reason: A piece of heat sink is loose or dropped off.
Solution: Remove the hash board that exceeds 80 degree Celsius to repair.
Note: If large quantity of hash boards temperature exceeds 80 degree Celsius, please add cooling devices, as the high temperature will ultimately go into the high temperature protection mode and the miner will shut down. Moreover, the miner can easily get defective when working in a high temperature environment.
2.
Issue: The hash rate is good, but there is no temperature shown on the Miner status.
The hash board is easily burnt if there is no temperature shown for monitoring or when the real temperature is very high
Reason: The temperature detector is damaged on one of the hash boards that lead to the other two hash boards to have the issues on temperature display as well.
Solution: Test the 3 hash boards one by one by connecting to the control board and let it run for about 5 minutes, find the faulty hash board with temperature detection problem and ship it back to repair.
3.
Issue: The hash rate is lower than normal. There is an “X” shown on the Miner status.
Reason: The ASIC chip is damaged, which resulted in the loss of some hash rate on the hash board.
Solution: If that hash board can still work well, you can keep and continue to let it work. There is no need to repair it unless the hash board becomes totally defective.
4.
Issue: The hash rate is lower than normal. There are a lot of “X” shown on Miner status
Reason: The chips are damaged, which lead to the entire hash board running abnormally.
Solution: Remove the hash board to repair.
5.
Issue: The hash rate is lower than normal. There are a lot of “-” shown on Miner status
Reason: It may be caused by instability of the PSU voltage or a defective hash board.
Solution: Replace the PSU and control board-hash board 18 pin ribbon cable. If replacing didn't work, please remove the hash board to repair.
6.
Issue: The hash rate is lower than normal. Some chips are lost. The hash rate is only running at 2/3 of the normal.
Reason: Chain scission of chips
Solution: Remove the hash board to repair.
7.
Issue: The miner has no hash rate. There is X.X.X.X shown on the Hardware Version. Hash board cannot be detected. There is no information shown at all on the Miner status interface.
Cause: The firmware of miner is not detected.
Solution: Power off the miner and reset it. Reload the firmware.
8.
Issue: The miner worked great when it was powered. After awhile, there is no hash rate.
Reason: One of the fans is not detected. Miner will work well only when both fans are detected.
Solution: Switch the control board connection between the two fans to find out which one is defective.
9.
Issue: A large number of Antpools surfaced. Hash rate is normal. There is no use resetting the router.
Reason: One of the computers in the network has been infected by virus or malware.
Solution: Find infected computer and remove the virus or malware.
10.
Issue: Miner can’t find IP. Red light flashing; Green light does not blink
- Reason:The Miner is not connected with the Internet.
Solution: Test the Internet cable, connection and the settings of the Internet (DHCP mode is required).
- Reason: The miner program has not started.
Solution: Reset the miner several times.
- Reason: The application of miner is lost.
Solution: Perform control board recovery
11.
Issue: The miner doesn’t work after powering on despite changing the PSU.
- Reason: There is a short circuit inside one of the hash boards.
Solution: Find which hash board is defective. Remove the defective part to repair.
- Reason: Control board failure
Solution: Change the control board
12.
Issue: PSU can’t work when if the PSU fan is running. Miner works well after changing PSU.
Reason: The PSU is defective. The PSU fan is powered by a different output. The defect can’t be judged by whether the fan rotation power is normal.
Solution: Ship back the PSU to repair.
13.
Issue: Miner restores to factory setting after powering off.
Reason:The software in BB board is damaged.
Solution: Perform control board recovery
14.
Issue: Miners work well for several month before it starts to malfunction.
- Reason: The hash boards were corroded by humidity and lots of dust.
Solution: Remove the defective hash boards, dust the miner and reduce air humidity.
- Reason: Large amount of dust, resulting in congestion in the air duct. Heat can’t be dissipated. Catkins are likely to cause congestion in air duct.
Solution: Remove the defective hash boards, dust the miner and add dust elimination.
15.
Issue: The machine is defective when network changed
Reason: Due to the network setup, miner can’t find the IP.
Solution: Power off and reset the miner.
16.
Issue: S7 malfunction after running for a while. It runs again after rebooting.
-Reason: Temperature exceeds 80 degree Celsius and miner will automatically shut down.
Solution: Increase the amount of air flow.
- Reason: The PGA in BB board weld badly, which lead to miner’s shut down.
Solution: Remove the BB board to repair.
17.
Issue: PSU can’t work but fan is running. All the indicators are off.
Reason: The control board cannot get power as the power circuit in IO board is damaged.
Solution: Switch the BB Board and IO Board with good miner to troubleshoot the defective parts.

I have had the same problem as many of you. I have 2 D3's. The first one i got Hashboard 3 was giving me excessive HW errors compared to 0 on the other 2 boards. I then updated the firmware and now Hashboard 3 does not show up at all and Hashboard 1 has started to give HW errors. The fans also ramp up to 6200rpm and then back down to 4000rpm for about 8 hours and now the fans stay on 6200rpm with no Hashboard 3 and temps are in the 50s on the PCB and 70 on the chips. Speed has gone down to 12gh/s. Working on getting it repaired under warranty hopefully everything goes ok.
On a side note my second D3 has now started to have HW errors on Hashboard 3, Im worried the same thing is going to happen. There is a obvious problem going on either with there manufacturing, QC or firmware which is understandable with electronics to a point but the trend seems to be climbing which is a terrible sign.
I had a order for 2 S9 and 2 L3+ but i think I'm going to put those on hold to see what happens with the warranty situation. Might have to go look for alternatives. Common Bitmain we all support you all we ask in return is to not only support your product but support us!
mine look like this after a fatal crash while I was putting in an voltage meter, and it stops the miner working then seeing a screen that only 1 miner was hashing..then I unplug and visual inspection for any other damages, only found out that nothing else beside the red light was only on the first hashing board, which is the right side if you're facing towards the reset button.then I went to turn off everything... so just leaving the antminer s9 and a switch with extra cooling under 1600w on 240v 10A power point. so it has room to catch back to speed again, remember s9 is super powerful machine, a shortage of 20mv can slow it down maybe cause hick ups with hash? anyway
so maybe Edward you need to listen to the machine andlooking up what it means and see what you have any clue why it happened in the first place? try res
then I went to turn off everything took out the meter completely and make sure there is enough amp for the miner to run on its own with switch,
@Elena55
I have the same problem on my S9 13.5 Hardware version and BMminer Version are blank and the Miner Status page isn't reporting anything.
Out of the box I was getting a Socket Connection Error, let it run for about 4 hours and waited for the CPU to be 100% idle then rebooted waited for idle, then hard booted and let it cool off. Once I started it back up after about 20 min it was idle again and I updated the firm ware which said it "successed" and I still had the error. Then I did the soft restore, no joy, then the reset button and ended up clearing the Socket Connection Error, but now Hardware version is blank! I've loaded the latest firm ware multiple times and attempted to load the update fix as well with no joy.
This is day 3 and about the 12th hr of on box troubleshooting.
Has anyone else had this issue or a recommendation?
hi bitmain my 2 hashing board is not working it started when i change my hashing pool ang then restarted and then the error is appear at first i see at asic status the zeros are less than it when missing 4 zeros are not display and i alarmed i try restart try to bring the old mining pool back and then it when from 4 hashing board to 3 hashing board and the i off the maching for 1hrs i think and power back the machine know i see 2 hashing board and the temp indicator is different and i see asic number different from 72 it became 66 and the another 1 is 68 i dont know what to do how to fix this and it still can mine but only 2 hashing board please help me pls. reply asap.

I have a problem with my Antminer D3, It worked barely until 2 hours, then it did shut down suddenly and completely . Not even reconnecting the PSU can put the Antminer into work. One of the issues described from the list above, may my case is issue 12, and it says is due to poor electrical feed ??? Gime me a break!! I have proofs even with cameras and electrical feeding record that my electrical supply is right, and the Antminer is defective. The Kernel Log and Monitor displays all blank. What is going on?

I use -Flashing SD card with image - Tools and Instructions to Image SD card, after boot wtiht this soft, can not enter the miner. The User : root and pass root not working. the ssh conection refused the machine.
PLS BITMAIN thell the people the user and pass. do not send defectiv machine , DOA.
I have received 2 antminer s9 yesterday, both out of box have no hardare and bmminer version, using 220v with bitmain psu.
I've tried udating firmware on one of the miners. Newest firmware on support.bitmain is 3 months older then what the miners original came with.
In kernam log. Repeats bmminer not found. Restarting bmminer.
In ssh. Running bmminer gets response of no pools specified.
Any solution to fixing
Hi , guys my S9 AntMiner version its has the SD card slot on the left of the Ethernet interface.
I have tried Soft-Restore and IP Reporter Restore and its keep no showing-data un Miner Status Tab ??? ???
Pool data are 3 slots filled and in Kernel Log appear this.....
bmminer not found= 1876 root 0:00 grep bmminer
bmminer not found, restart bmminer ...
bmminer not found=21834 root 0:00 grep bmminer
bmminer not found, restart bmminer ...
bmminer not found= 8881 root 0:00 grep bmminer
bmminer not found, restart bmminer ...
Miner keep restarting in a loop !
Any idea ??? thanks!
same here tried with to many diffrent psu included apw3++ apw5++

nope hard reset older firmware tested ?
no way

ME TOO! I got my Antminer S9 today at noon... Three hours later I gave up.
Out of the box, boots up and starts hashing with default factory settings. Everything looks great on the Miner Status tab. Even the green light is lit. I go into Miner Config to set up my pools, save & apply... nothing.
Hardware Version goes blank. So I reset factory settings and now I get nothing but a blank screen.
Why?
Anyone else having trouble with this new batch? Or better yet, anyone figure out a fix?
I've fixed one of my 2 miners,. I flashed the August firmware , and did many restarts. Wait about 15 min between full reboot.
My second miner has a dead hashboard. Kinda sucks to buy equipment and come in broken :(
I found a work around to get my S9 going. I only plugged in 2 boards to the PSU, thus only using 2/3 of the power. I didn't buy the Bitman PSU. I'm using my EVGA Supernova 1600 T2. It should power all three cards, like in older batches. Not sure why this is an issue now.
I guess Bitman found a way to get us to buy their PSU. It sucks because in the US, 220-240V isn't the standard and getting a line installed is costly.
Unless I hear any different, I'm going to try the 2 PSU setup. I just need to get my hands on another EVGA Supernova 1600 T2.
Daq79. Look at combining a 1200 watt and a 600 watt. 1200 watt evga on 2 boards and 600 watt on single board. When mine does autotune it ramps up close to 1700 watss. After it starts mining I'm close to 1400 watts and 13.9 th
The current PSU is 1600 watt. You think I can hook up my 750 watt to power the third board? I don't know why, it just feels like it would have to be the same wattage. I have no knowledge to base that on.
Daq79 yes you should be fine hooking up 2 different sized psu. Just make sure that you hashboard 1 and 2 and controller only go to 1600w and hashboard 3 only goes to 750 watt. Try to hit the power on button exact same time, or 750watt just a franction of a second later then the 1600w.
Might check that each hashboard has the red lights on before swapping to 2x psu. If all hashboard have the red light on, you are good to go with 2x psu. If not you probably have a dead board like me.
kris kern, thanks for the info. I will try it out in the morning.
You are welcome. Hope you get it working :)
hy , the fix is easy.
put the firmeware for all auto tune frecvency, first on bitmain s9 .
change port on pool antnpool from 3333 to 443. save and aplay.
whait 10-15min to autotune and is OK>
pls replay after.
my s9 is 13,5Th/s thi a made.
psu apw5++ at 220v so no power problem have 3 apw5

removed 2 hashbord
update software to all setup from bitmain 550m 650m autofreq
tried different pool version thats some already working at old antminer S9
bmminer notfound???
tried zwilla update from github no
have 15 antminer S9 tried those on 5 of them no
what is goin on antminer ?
hoops another error

please fix this software autofreq or which ever for last batch thousands are discussing at bitcointalk for this problem bitmain

Can somebody from Bitmain provide status on RMA:
03320171109231323836UbxESVP00697
You hays had it for 5 weeks RMA for missing hashboard and NOT a single update.
Ridiculous! The worst customer services I've ever experienced.
kris kern, the two power supply option worked! I'm hashing at 13.5+ Th/s. But I have something new.
Has anyone else encountered, with the Dec 11 batch of S9's, blank chip temp?
Daq79, that is great. No I haven't seen that problem, but it should be an issue with mining. I don't pay much attention to the temps (witch I should) my room stays at 40 degree c that my miners are in.
Not sure with account I logged into this is Kris kern :)
Hello
What is wrong with chain# 7 ?
daq79 and kris kern, the first temp should be chip temperature, but the manufacturer canceled display, maybe they don't wanna make panic because it's really hot, and the second one as shown is PCB temperature, just control this number under 80 will help it to work longer. FYI.
@Almshary27 maybe you will lost this board, but try this first, reboot and see if it comes back, if it doesn't work, call RMA
